Punish excellence, reward mediocrity.

Not just reward mediocrity, but promote it. Gotta keep those federal dollars rolling in!
A lot of that has to do with the man (I use that term loosely) that's in charge down at CHS nowadays.
Doc Greear nor Steve Hubbard would have put up w/half the stuff that goes on down there most of the time--they would have put a stop to most of it before it got to this point. I know this was an off-campus incident, but still--if you've got solid leaders/role models to look at, you're less likely to do something like this. When you don't have that leader/role-model...well, you see what happens.

I put that on the parents more than the teachers/principals. These kids not having a good role model or guidance at home is a bigger issue.

I can agree with that as well...I was speaking moreso to the whole increased police presence at CHS and supposedly at the ballgame tomorrow night than anything. I don't think Doc nor Steve would have let things get so out of control. I know times are different, but to me, that's a major difference from back when you and I were in school and the kids that are presently in school.

Dude, What the hell are ou talking about. The princepal now a days has no control over the kids just because of the low-life whitetrash people who are having kids now-a-days. I know you said it was an out-of-school event so why are you saying its the princepals fault. Its nowbodys but the kids going into a situation like that and the parents letting them do it and not caring. I believe that parents can care too much and you run into the same problems after the kids start to rebel against them. I believe that everthing sould be done in moderation. Im in aggreance with bustin some ass every now an then. I have be the recipient of many whoopins' from about every person in my family. From my dad to even my great-grandaws and I think I ahve tured out allright (that could be up for debate haha...).

I'm just saying that kids going to HS nowadays at CHS don't have near the role models that I did or others before us did at that school in the administration and in the teachers as well--most of them that were good role models and teachers/principals have either died or retired from teaching. The current people there now just wish they were half the person those people were. There wouldn't be the need for police intervention if some of those people were still teaching/administrating at that school, regardless of out-of-school incidents, I think.
Those people had an effect on me and how I turned out as a person. They didn't control me, but I learned not just stuff out of the books from them, but about life as well and that combined with being raised by a couple of pretty good parents helped me be the person I am today, which is pretty good (though, like you, could be up for debate).
There's lots of kids I went to school with that had crappy parents that didn't care as well that ended up better adjusted to life and made it further than what they would have had they not had someone at CHS tell them that they could be more and that they could get a good education and do something with their lives.
That place used to be a lot better place than what it currently is, I believe.
And to be clear--I'm not disagreeing with the parents being scum--they need to step up and be accountable. Major fault there too--someone needs to be handing out some whoopins either at home or at school.
